B. What makes beautiful bridal makeup?

R. Beauty has a lot to do with confidence. I think knowing who you are, what you like and doing— the best possible version of that makes for a beautiful bridal makeup.

B. Often brides are having to get ready in the morning and are up until the wee hours of the night dancing the night away. The photos start from the moment they get up to the time they leave. How do you ensure the look lasts?

R. There are a lot of products that can help with how long your makeup lasts. I think a good primer is key. I would also suggest an eyeshadow primer and definitely set all creamy and liquid products with translucent powder. You should use a setting spray as your final step. I think a few items to touch up are a good idea, like blotting papers, a pressed translucent power and lip colour.

B. Are there key products and application tips you can share with us?

R. I try to be adaptable to each of my client’s needs and their specific features and skin. I am always trying different products, but some of my favouriteS are, Laura Mercier flawless Lumiere Foundation, Nars concealer, Charlotte Tillbury Flawless Filter, and Laura Mercier Translucent Powder. I always suggest applying makeup in thin layers. You can always add more, but it's very hard to take away.

B. What is your advice to brides when thinking about their look?

R. I would tell brides to look like you on your wedding day. You don’t need to look different you just want to look your best. Find references that look like you and reflect your style to show your makeup artist. Definitely do a trial before the wedding day to make sure you like what you have planned.

B. Are there key questions brides should ask their makeup artist?

R. Make sure all the logistics are laid out. Date, time, number of people—Then just make sure to bring your ideas, likes and dislikes to the trial. If you don’t feel listened to, then find a makeup artist who does listen. Although makeup artists are beauty experts they aren’t mind readers. It's all about communication.

B. How should a bride prep for the big day?

R. The better your actual skin is, the better your makeup is going to look. Sometimes, I have brides-to-be with such great skin—I tell them to keep to their routine. Sometimes they need help, in which case I would suggest seeing a dermatologist or an aesthetician.

I would say a hydrated skin is important and crucial if your skin is naturally dry. Stay hydrated, try a sheet mask and eye patches. Avoid harsh chemicals, or intense facials too close to the wedding day.  Get your eyebrows professionally done a day or two before the wedding. And try to get some sleep.

Most of all, if you're not having fun then there is no point. Your wedding is a party for you and your partner and that’s all that matters.
