When the heat is on, ponytails are one of the best ways to maintain your hair and keep your cool. I asked top stylist Helen Kenny for her advice on this seasons top trends and her essential styling tips.
“I love ponytails,” say’s Helen. “They can really change a person’s look and there are so many ways they can be styled. It can be worn as a casual look or a mega going out look.” Afraid you don’t have the thickness as your favourite influencer? KENNY MENTIONS “By adding hair/clip in pieces or extensions you can really have some fun with it.”
Luxy Hair has easy to use clip in ponytail extension that come in a variety of lengths and textures.
Getting a perfect or perfectly imperfect ponytail is not as easy as it looks. If you’re like me, there’s always one hair that seems to pop out at the side ,or a few baby hairs that straggle away. Helen suggests working with what you have. “Don’t try to fight it. Embrace new baby hairs and post partum hair around your face.” Try using a gel with a small toothbrush to sculpt your baby hairs back into position or detailed around the face. If you have textured hair, embrace the texture.
What are some of your tips for doing a tight, face snatched ponytail?
The most important part is the placement,” says Helen. “You want to place the ponytail at the point that flatters your face.” Try using your cheek bone and continue the angle to the back of you head to really lift and sculpt.
Another great tip is to use nylon elastics for tighter ponytails. This will keep the ponytail taught as you elastic around it and wont snag hair as you are securing it.
HELEN SUGGESTS TO “Always spray hairspray onto your comb or brush when you are gathering the hair all together.” Brush selection is also important—“A back combing brush is key for me, or a Mason Pearson brush to make sure the hair is smooth and sleek.”
