Megan Kozak – Face Sculptor, is Breaking the Stigma. It goes deeper than injections.

Megan Kozak, Toronto’s Designer Face Maker, is redefining the way injectables are looked at, one face at a time. With over 10,000 procedures under her belt since entering the world of aesthetic medicine, she has become known for her no b*llshit persona combined with her dramatic non-surgical art of ‘face building’; transforming clients from the outside in. She wants education to be at the forefront of every person’s decision when thinking about facial enhancement procedures.

“If people were honest about having work done, it would allow for a cultural shift in the way we perceive what is real and what is just smoke and mirrors”

Creator of the #getREAL Protocol and leader of the #getREAL Movement, Megan is establishing a new standard for injectable results while empowering women to be more open regarding the work they have had done.  The inspiration? The endless number of patients who would seek her help to fix work done by previous providers revealed the need for simplicity and transparency in an industry that is anything but.

Q. What can people expect when they come to see you?

I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. I have a no-nonsense approach and will just tell patients the truth. Sometimes the truth can hurt the ego or hurt the wallet, but it is necessary and this is part of my charm.  There is no ‘in the middle.’ I like full honesty; I am going to give you full honesty.

First, I teach our patients to be their own expert. This is number one. It doesn’t matter which office they go to afterwards; they will now understand how their face actually works. This level of education allows patients to feel more confident and in control of the decisions they make surrounding injectable procedures and their expected outcome.

Secondly, I teach our patients that the ultimate decision maker is their actual face. If I can teach them to look at their face objectively instead of subjectively, they will have an incredible face for life. Those are the most important two words – Objective vs. Subjective.

Beauty is subjective and can be interpreted many different ways depending on the person, which is why injectable results vary so greatly from practitioner to practitioner. We all have different views with different approaches, which in turn leads to completely different outcomes. Therefore, I take beauty out of the equation and solely look at the objective facts I see in the face from top to bottom. If we know the facts, we can create the right plan and manage patient expectations much easier.

Q. How do you create your ‘Designer Faces?’

My designer faces are a representation of my highest form of art ranging anywhere from $15k-30k. Like designer anything, they are extremely detailed, and clients need to have patience for me to curate the look. Sometimes it is months and sometimes it is years, but the result is always worth the wait. I call this art my soul work as I am simply a creator at heart. These cases are quite complex and take objectivity to a whole new level; I call it Face Building. I also spend a lot of time looking beyond the physical aspect and find additional inspiration from the deep connections I build with these patients. Who do I see on the inside and how do I bring that inner ‘creature’ to life? It is magical to be a part of a physical transformation that leads to so much more for patients, which is why I started photographing my creations. Maker with masterpiece. The essence of my art coming full circle.

Q. Why do you only do injections?

I can only do what I believe in. Beauty can be such a greedy industry that is constantly preying on the vulnerabilities of women and I want our patients to know that we are looking out for them. It blows my mind when patients give me the laundry list of recommendations they were given in the past, being told they need every procedure/laser/skincare regime possible. It’s all bullshit. But guess what, people buy it! Then after spending thousands on treatments that didn’t turn out, the consumer is back to square one. It doesn’t need to be so complicated. No one is sharing the truth that we don’t actually need ALL of these things. As leaders we should be teaching the consumer HOW to think, not what to think so that they can make better aesthetic decisions altogether. I joke with my husband that I would be a lot richer if I didn’t have morals – I actually care.

Q. Why is patient education important to you?

There is a severe lack of consumer transparency in the injectable market and this makes it very confusing to navigate. Patients can search on Google what Botox is and what it can do, but there is no useful information regarding finding the right provider or how a skillset of that provider is measured. And this makes sense because art cannot be measured. Most consumers don’t even know that an injector certification is simply a weekend course. Guess what one learns in a weekend? Not a whole lot. Therefore, the skillset is developed over time based on the artistry of the individual provider. I knew I needed to make things easier for our patients and grow our team that could execute my unique approach on a smaller scale, that is why I created the #getREAL Protocol. I also wrote/directed/produced the educational #getREAL Miniseries using my REAL patients to help cut through the myths and break down the barriers so consumers can understand what is REAL and what isn’t.

Q. What is the #getREAL Movement?

The #getREAL Movement is a multi-level campaign that was inspired by the frustration and sadness that I see in my office daily. From correcting botched work, seeing young faces overfilled and wanting more, to women who have spent thousands to ‘appear’ natural yet tell their circle they ‘are’ natural; there is a perpetual cycle of unrealistic beauty that needs to be dismantled.

We need to start a conversation of REAL. Some say we need to normalize injectables, but this is not the case. We need to normalize TALKING about injectables and creating a safe space for women to get the information and clarity they need to be able to navigate the industry in a healthy way.

I want to say a special shoutout to my REAL patients who helped me put this video series together: Melissa, Liza, Angela, and Michelle. You are all magic. #getREAL is all about truth and in this post-COVID landscape I believe we will see a cultural shift that is more authentic and meaningful. Let’s remove all of these smoke screens and see what’s going on in the REAL world on every level.

Q. What is next for #getREAL?

The #getREAL Video Campaign will launch October 2nd and it is something you don’t want to miss.  I definitely see us adding content to the series in the future and maybe producing something set for the big screen. I recently pitched Netflix an idea back in August and we are still waiting to hear back from that opportunity, but I am confident our message of REAL will be picked up by someone, somewhere, some time. I try my best to sit back into the unknown and create from a place of love and let the universe guide me.
