Top 3 Wedding Registry Trends:

Personal(ized) Touches

Couples are going to great lengths to bring personal touches to their weddings. “One bride had her groom’s name incorporated into her Indian wedding henna on her hands and feet,” explains Andrea Hopson, Hopson Grace Co-Founder, “and another bride, whose husband’s last name is MacDonald, arranged mini Big Mac sliders and McDonald’s-style skinny fries to serve to guests as a late night post-wedding snack. This trend turned up in gift giving as well. Guests will often select a gift from the couple’s registry and add a personal touch by engraving the couple’s initials or wedding-date on the item.

Handmade Outperforms Mass

There’s romance in the handmade, and couples are drawn to hand-crafted ceramics and wooden bowls and boards. An antidote to a technology-centred world, there’s added value and pleasure in understanding a product’s provenance. “Using the proverbial ‘dirt of the earth’ to produce something unique brings context, warmth and a personal touch to a gift,” explains Martha Grace McKimm, Co-Founder of Hopson Grace.

Casual meets Sophistication

As the millennial preference for casual entertaining continues to trend upward, young couples continue to be drawn toward organic and casual shapes and materials. “Wooden cheese boards and organic-shaped dinnerware and serving pieces are simply a reflection of how so many today live, eat and entertain,” adds Hopson.

Something extra:Andrea + Martha’s Registry Tips

Deciding what to put on your registry wish list can be daunting for many couples who aren’t sure where to start. Registering allows couples to take stock of their home and use the opportunity to add or upgrade as they plan to enter a new phase of their lives. “It’s so special to be able to fill your home with not only things you need – but items you love,” explains Hopson. “After all, life’s best moments are often around the table, surrounded by family, friends, food and wine.”

Give yourself enough time. It’s ok to register as soon as you get engaged, or at least four to six months before the wedding.  This allows guests time to purchase not only your wedding gifts, but also to purchase engagement or shower gifts too.Over-register.To satisfy gift needs from engagement parties to shower gifts, request more items than the number of people on your guest list. Guests also love having the luxury of choice, so don’t worry about seeming greedy; instead, do them a favour and make sure there’s enough to choose from, in a wide range of prices.Know yourself. Don’t feel pressured to register for formal dinnerware if you think it’ll get dusty in a cupboard, or a gravy boat if you think a casual jug will do the trick. Be true to the way you live by choosing items that you love and that reflect your lifestyle.Don’t be afraid to mix it up – prices, styles, materials. Avoid registering for too many coordinating items. Instead, embrace a variety of styles, prices and materials. Instead of seeming disjointed, they are the key elements that lead to great style.Don’t worry if you don’t get everything on your registry. Hopson Grace’s new completion program extends newly married couples a one-time discount to help them complete their registry for up to a year after their wedding.
