ESCAPE TO PLANET SCHIAPARELLI

ideas into orbit with its gravity defying SS22 Couture collection during Paris couture week.

Titled “An age of Discipline,” creative director Daniel Roseberry’s latest look book takes us on an intergalactic exploration of peak-pandemic escapism in couture by way of elemental colours juxtaposed with aerodynamic shapes.

“After two years of thinking about the Surreal, I found myself instead thinking about the empyreal: The heavens as a place to escape from the chaos of our planet, but also the home of a mythical high priestess, at once goddess and alien, who might in fact walk among us,” says Roseberry in a statement on Schiaparelli’s site.

And so, models assumed the empyreal position as they walked the runway in signature silhouettes elevated by sharp new takes and planetary pieces of carefully crafted couture in black, white, and redefined Schiaparelli gold. In a departure from the typically grandiose nature of couture, Roseberry noted this colour palette as less of a “return to basics” and more of a “move towards the elemental”.

“An age of Discipline” is historic, with both in-house references to the Apollo Fountain of Versailles for example (a vintage Schiaparelli motif) and external likeness to past fashion design (think, Jean Paul Gaultier’s cone bra). Historic, yes, but simultaneously futuristic as it whisks us away from current affairs into thoughts of what could be.

Planet Schiaparelli looks theatrical,
evocative, and utterly gold. It’s simply the perfect escape.
