Paying further homage to madame Chanel herself, inspiration for this collection was drawn all from décor elements of the late designer’s Paris apartment to zodiac motifs representative of her astrological sign, Leo. It was also presented as an ode to French artist and poet Jean Cocteau—a dear friend of Chanel’s. Described by CHANEL ambassador and spokesperson, Charlotte Casiraghi, their relationship was “affectionate,” and the two often designed costumes and dresses for each other.

Digitally streaming from the limestone expanses of the Carrières de Lumières—in the south of France comes the CHANEL cruise 2021/22 show by Virginie Viard. The collection is infused with ‘60s punk rock elements of thick liner, fishnets, double c lip rings, miniskirts, and side swept bangs—but not without classic CHANEL touches of course. A nearly entirely black and white array of garments is showcased in true CHANEL fashion, paired with costume pearls and a newly sculpted feminine silhouette for the iconic tweed jacket reimagined by Viard. Familiar top model faces Vittoria Ceretti, Mica Argañaraz and Jill Kortleve were among the cast who brought cruise couture to life.

We’re still not sure what we’re more obsessed with—the punk allure of the collection or the cinematic presentation of it all as camera’s wove in and out of limestone walls, transitioning between black and white to the warmth of the French cave. We’ll let you decide—view the full film here.
